Drilling and tapping special purpose machines
Multi-spindle drilling, tapping and reaming machines that put every hole in one cycle — with depth control, broken-tool detection and fixtures that locate the casting the same way every time.
At a glance
- Spindles
- Single to multi-spindle heads, fixed or adjustable
- Operations
- Drilling, tapping, reaming, counterboring, chamfering
- Fixture
- Hydraulic or pneumatic clamping with index where needed
- Control
- Depth control, torque monitoring, broken-tool detection
- Lead time
- Indicative 12–18 weeks from design freeze
Overview
Drilling & Tapping SPMs built to your application
Moving a casting between three machines to make eight holes costs handling, setup variation and floor space. A purpose-built drilling SPM does the work in one clamping, which removes the position error that accumulates across setups.
The engineering effort goes into the fixture, spindle layout, thrust and torque calculation, swarf and coolant management, and the sensing that stops a broken tap from producing a hundred scrap parts.
Variants
Types of drilling & tapping spms we build
Multi-spindle drilling machine
All holes on a face drilled in one cycle.
Tapping SPM
Torque-controlled tapping with reversing and thread verification options.
Rotary index drilling machine
Multiple faces or operations across index positions.
Combination drill-tap station
Drilling and tapping in a single clamping.

Drilling & Tapping SPMs: common questions
How many holes can one machine make?
It depends on hole size, material and spindle spacing. Multi-spindle heads routinely handle six to twenty holes per cycle; tighter patterns may need staged operations.
Can the machine detect a broken tap?
Yes — through torque monitoring and depth confirmation, with the cycle stopped and the part flagged before it moves on.
Do you supply the cutting tools?
We specify and supply the initial tooling set, and hand over a tooling list so your team can reorder locally.
